Reviews

As a self-published author, I needed an editor who could help with many more details than a traditionally published author would need. Amy helped me improve my manuscripts, improve my style, and reminded me of things I'd learned and forgotten about writing and storytelling.
Her attention to detail in the technical aspects of grammar is just one part of the service she can provide. More important is the artful side of improving a story to make it more readable, more engaging, and in the end, more professional.
In two years of working together, we have brought one book to print, and one is in the final editing phase.
If you need an editor for a novel, short story, or memoir, Amy can help you get it done.

Freelance Services Available

Treatment and Term Paper Editing

Have your 2-5 page novel treatment or term paper professionally edited. This is a primary developmental editing service for those who have had a publisher request a treatment or outline. As well as term papers that need developmental and copy editing work. For treatments/papers longer than 5 pages: $80 per hour will be charged.

Included:

1. Developmental editing.

2. Copy editing to pick up any grammar or spelling errors.

3. Consultation

Paper editing is 1.5 to 3.5 cents a word, depending on the need.

Proofreading

Proofreading is the stage of publishing a book that comes directly before the book goes to print. After the copy has been edited and seems ready to go, this is when the proofreading stage begins. It’s the proofreader’s job to meticulously comb through the proof to see if the copy editor has missed anything. And to catch any mistakes that the copy editor may have inadvertently introduced into the final file such as:

1.       Incorrect numbering of pages

2.       Inaccurate indexing

3.       Misaligned text

4.       Additional or missing spaces between words

5.       Incorrect paragraphing

And of course: Typos

Fiction is 1.5 cents a word. (No Fact-Checking)

Non-fiction is 2 cents a word. (Includes Fact-Checking)

Developmental Editing

As your Developmental Editor, I will focus on resolving “big picture” issues in your manuscripts, including structure, form, plot, and character. Since this type of editing focuses on wider story elements, we won’t address sentence-level errors such as punctuation and grammar typos. Once the developmental editing contract is complete, we can move on to line editing for an additional price of 4 cents a word.

As your developmental editor, I will bear your target audience in mind and assess your work in relation to industry standards and expectations.

Blog Posting for Your Business

Each blog will be 300-1200 words to be published on your website on an agreed-upon day. Your blog will highlight your products, customers, the community where your business resides, and anything else that you would like. We will meet through Zoom or one-on-one to discuss your target customers and your expectations on blogging. Blogging is the perfect forum to connect with your community in a deeper way than the website alone by increasing customer satisfaction through engagement. Your blog will actively fuel your search engine optimization (SEO) efforts by providing timely and relevant information about your business. In turn, your business will grow.

Daily Blogging is $4,000/mo.

Weekly Blogging is $800/mo.

Monthly Blogging is $250/mo.

Ghostwriting

Your book/speech/story will be written and you’ll get 100% of the credit. You, as the credited author, will get the final word as to what does and does not go into the piece. It will be written in your voice and not that of the ghostwriter. To supply that artistic service I will need to meet with you either on Zoom or one-on-one (travel paid for by the client). As the ghostwriter, I will analyze the overall pacing and logical flow of the piece to determine what types of edits it will need after it is written and before publication. All edits after the contract is fulfilled are extra and charged at line editing rates.

Types of jobs available:

·         Nonfiction books (including up to 20 photos)

·         Public speeches

·         Short stories

·         Memoir (including up to 20 photos)

Line Editing

Your line editor ensures that the sentences in your book (or article) are effective and succinct. She will work line-by-line, to tighten up sentence structure so the language is sharp and clear. She analyzes the word choice, character names, and settings to determine overall themes and meanings. She focuses on syntax, tone, and emotion, which contribute to the manuscript. Finally, a line editor is concerned with the overall pacing and logical flow of a piece.

Newsletters for Family or Businesses

Many businesses and families use newsletters to share information with their network of interested people. My family has sent out newsletters for years, starting out as monthly newsletters written and published by me. Businesses and organizations use them as direct access to their customers for sales promotion and to drive traffic to their websites. Whether you send them in paper form, pdf form, or as an e-mail, a newsletter connects people. The subjects addressed, the people introduced, the funny anecdotes written, help bring a hominess and connectedness to any subject.

Book Design and proof copy ordered for Self-Publishers

When I helped my mom publish her memoir, Love is a Family: Memoir of a Lifetime (July 21, 2018), I created her 6”x9” book with all the design experience I have and it’s a beautiful book. I can do the same for you. We will meet either on Zoom or one-on-one (travel paid for by the client) to discuss your ideas for the finished product. We’ll talk about what publisher you would like to go through (CreateSpace is Amazon’s publishing company), the size and type of font, the pictures (total of 20) that you would like to include, and your overall vision for the book. I will design it, add the pictures, and order a proof copy from the self-publisher publishing company of your choice.

$80 an hour on contract

My book, “A Place for Meg,” is out and on the shelves. I have had a book tour around Las Vegas and am scheduling one in the Vancouver, WA area. A Place for Meg is about a high school girl who just moved to the big city of Portland, OR. And since moving is never easy, especially if you’re a sheltered high school junior from a small town, it makes for a great young adult story. As Meg attempts to navigate her new life in the big city, trying to find food, friends, and fun, she also tries to find ways to hurdle the obstacles that come her way.

Join Meg as she settles into her big-city high school while feeling a pull from her past. After getting involved with actors putting on the play “The Taming of the Shrew,” she’s introduced to the world of thespians and a degree of intoxicating activity that she’s never experienced before. Through Meg’s humor, narcissism, kindness, and sarcasm, readers will become immersed in this one week of high school life with someone who is just trying to find a place in her world.

Out in June 2023!

It’s all about the words.
