Las Vegas Book Tour

Enjoy today’s blog talking about my latest experience as I depart on my first ever book tour. Las Vegas, here I come!

I got to the airport early, so I thought I’d sit and relax with a beautiful glass of Grasparossa di Castelvetro from the Cleto Chirarli Winery. It was a lovely Italian sparkling wine made from the Lambrusco grape. I sat at Vino Volo for a relaxing wait until it was time to catch my plane to Vegas.

The view from my hotel balcony in Las Vegas. The bright light in the back is the Las Vegas Sphere. It constantly changes and is mesmerizing as you stand and watch. Look below for a video of just a minute of the cool changes it goes through.

My husband reserved a wonderful room for me. It was upgraded from a basic room since he had a lot of points through Marriott Bonvoy for all his hotel stays for work. The room was large, the bed was comfortable, and it even had a separate bedroom. An amazing spot for my first ever mini book tour!

I set my things up in a coffee shop called Coffee and Rock. They have the most amazing coffee concoctions I’ve ever seen at a coffee shop. It’s definitely a place you want to visit when you’re in town. Here are some pictures of my display and the coffee shop. This is me with Margie Logsdon, a real estate agent in Las Vegas. Thank you Elaine Matthews for accommodating me!

When others may stay in Las Vegas and gamble or sit by the pool, I decide to go hiking and am introduced to a few wild things and beautiful views. Picture 1: Heading out on the trail, I first take a picture by the car. Picture 2: The sign to the Middle Oak Creek Trail. Picture 3: Trail direction set much like the other trails I hike in and around Palm Springs, CA. Picture 4 and 5: As I’m hiking along, thinking of nothing and everything all at the same time, I am scared by a “boo!” that turns out to be someone who was just hanging out off the trail, looking like a wild Cro-Magnon among the low cacti and sage, much like Ayla from The Clan of the Cave Bear (Jean M. Auel). I had her pose as one, just for the fun of it. We talked for a few minutes and came to the conclusion that nothing is a coincidence and that we were meant to meet. She suggested I listen to the book The Emissary (Tamara Veitch, Rene DeFazio) on Audible because she really enjoyed it. I uploaded it. Pictures 6-9: Beautiful scenery found in the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. Picture 10: a visiting snake that looked to me like a baby. I didn’t stay long enough to find out if it had a mommy nearby.

Picking up my posse from the airport for a few days of fun in Vegas. On the left, Ellen’s sister-in-law Elaine, my sister Ellen, and my niece Mary. It was such a wonderful feeling to have my support system with me on this short book tour. Thank you, Ladies!!!

My first reading and presentation of my book A Place for Meg. We had a wonderful time at The Firelight Barn’s Book Babbles, a book presentation and signing event put on the owners of the Firelight Barn Dinner Theater, Toni Jackson, and family. Check for their shows and buy tickets on their website www.firelightbarn.com, or by visiting:

Also in attendance was our mother’s dear friend Dorothy Baroch, speaking on her books, and four other authors who spoke about theirs. I’d like to thank Toni Jackson for the opportunity to get Meg’s voice out into the world.

Also pictured is a long-time friend and the inspiration for my character Julie, Judy Medlock-Berghardt. She and her husband Greg came to watch my presentation and buy books for Christmas presents. They had a wonderful time and have invited me back to stay with them in Las Vegas sometime in the future.

It was a fun trip, a great experience, and something I will remember forever. When trying to market and sell my book, I have learned a major part of the process. Connections. Life is full of human connections, and people will always gravitate toward others. Connecting to your people (present and past), supporting your people, and meeting more people will make the bonds of family and friendships much deeper. Have a wonderful day!
