Finding an Office

I knew that if I was starting a business, I needed an office. I’m such a people person that I need to be around people during the day. I need my quiet time, too, but I knew that an ‘at home’ office wasn’t going to cut it. I also got some advice from my big brother Frank that confirmed my belief. He said that getting an office makes it real. And it lets all those around you know that you’re not just doing this for a hobby. This is something that needs to turn a profit. He has given me lots of other advice, but this one stuck. Just kidding, all of his advice sticks. He’s my big brother after all! (www.schmidtarchitectspc.com)

More googling showed me a few companies that rent out individual office space. That’s when I found Regus and made an appointment to look at an office in downtown Vancouver, Washington on Main Street. My friend, Carri, and I came down on a cold windy day in February to see what office space looks like and how much it is. My one ‘must’ was that I had to have (and I mean HAD to have) a window. Coming from an office space in the ground (basement) with no window, I was tired of feeling like a groundhog looking for her shadow. I needed the sky. I needed to know when it was nice outside for my daily walks.

Karen showed us a beautiful corner office that would have been perfect, only it was too expensive. However, knowing my situation and what I needed, Karen got back to me when another office came open. Walking into this office, I knew it was exactly what I need. She knew it, too. I’m on the 4th floor. I have a wall of windows that looks out into the sky. At times, I almost feel like I’m a kindred spirit with the pilots in the planes that pass by. I look out at the Proto-Cathedral of St. James the Greater Catholic Church that chimes its bells at noon every day. It’s lovely. And exactly the spot I need. I have found my office, and I am at home in downtown Vancouver, WA!

(If you need an office, too, please contact Karen at karen.chok@iwgplc.com. She’s great and if you rent at a Regus, I believe I get $500 off my rent. Pretty cool!)
