Moving into the Office

Moving day finally came. I had looked at the first office in February, got my business license in March, got this office in April, and then waited and waited until I could move into my little piece of the sky. On August 1, 2022, my friend Pearl (Thank you Pearl!) helped me move in. All that time in between was filled with a few things:

  1. I had to get the guts to tell my boss and office mates that I was quitting my full-time, okayly paid, job.

  2. I had to save some money (although I had been doing that for a while) because I knew that the first year or so I wouldn’t make much money.

  3. I had to wait patiently for the fiscal year to end (August 31)

  4. I had to come to the conclusion that I couldn’t wait for the fiscal year to end (August 31) and instead decide that July 31 would be my last day.

  5. I had to use up my vacation days and sick days.

  6. I had to (got to) train my replacement.

Those days seemed to drag, and I thought I would be there forever. The difficult part of the job (office politics) became harder to handle. My temper (usually nonexistent) became hard to control (picture me growling here like a little doggy mad at the neighborhood cat that thinks it can hang out in its backyard). My eyes rolled so many times that I thought they would roll out of my head (this is hyperbole. I didn’t really think they would roll out. Although with how many times I was saying ‘oh brother’ with an eye roll, it could have happened).

And then it was my last day. And the scary conclusion that I no longer had a steady income descended on me like a slap across the face. One night I woke up startled thinking, “Holy crap. What have I done?” Then I remembered the growling and the eye-rolling and the office politics and settled down. Taking a deep breath I told myself that it was all okay. That everything will work out fantastically. And that my new business and my incredible office in the sky will be an exciting adventure. One that I will never regret, just like all the adventures in my life.

My next great adventure begins!
